Pilot/ Guest Service Host, Summer

The Pilot/Guest Service Host, Summer is a skilled position that pilots groups of guests down the track in a five-man wheeled Bobsleigh at the Whistler Sliding Centre.  Duties include rotating through all roles associated with the Summer Bobsleigh Experience program.  This temporary casual role requires flexibility to work weekends and evenings.

Responsibilities: 

Bobsleigh Pilot

  • Conduct pre-checks of sleds before every session
  • Pilot guests in a five-man wheeled Bobsleigh in a WSC public sled on the Whistler track
  • Interact with guests to provide high level of customer service
  • Deliver orientation sessions for public programs
  • Adhere to all safety standards as outlined by WSL
  • Adhere to the program procedures and protocols
  • Carry out Whistler Sport Legacies’ customer service philosophy AIM:  All Interactions Matter
  • Assist team with other duties as assigned or required

Guest Service Host

  • Greet visitors and assist them to register for the Summer Bobsleigh Experience program
  • Work on a rotation with the Guest Service team in all positions within the Summer Bobsleigh Experience program
  • Gather and process participant information and waivers
  • Equipment safety inspections, e.g., helmets
  • Lead program safety presentation
  • Maintain radio communications with Control Tower
  • Shuttle/walk participants to start and return
  • Safely unload sled into ready position
  • Safely load guests into sled
  • Recap safety components and final check of guest equipment and comfort level
  • Assist pilots at Finish Dock, and assist guests to unload safely
  • Safely load sled onto truck
  • Track maintenance, as assigned
  • Process public sliding information requests and bookings by phone and/or email and send confirmations as directed
  • Use a Point of Sale system to process rides and merchandise payments and process end of day cash reconciliation as directed
  • Track merchandise inventory and request reordering from Supervisor
  • Assist in general up-keep of the Guest Services areas, including the daily set up of equipment and displays indoors and outdoors
  • Proactively continue to evolve the Sport and Guest Services department to exceed the expectations of our guests
  • Safely operate a sled truck to transport sleds on venue
  • Adhere to all safety standards as outlined by WSL
  • Adhere to the Summer Bobsleigh Experience program procedures and protocols
  • Carry out Whistler Sport Legacies’ customer service philosophy AIM:  All Interactions Matter
  • Assist team with other duties as assigned or required
Education/Experience: 
  • Bobsleigh Pilot must meet criteria as outlined in the WSL Summer Bobsleigh Operations manual approved by BC Safety Authority
  • Previous Guest Service experience required
  • BC Class 5 driver’s license an asset
  • BC Class 4 unrestricted driver’s license an asset
  • Knowledge of the Whistler Sliding Centre venue and sliding sports preferred

Skills

  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Willingness to assist other team members (perhaps outside the department) as needed and requested
  • Passion for exceptional customer service is essential

Languages

  • Fluency in English required
Physical Requirements: 
  • Must pass a documented competency assessment for each start position with on site coach
  • Ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to regularly lift 70lbs
