Whistler Sliding Centre is a world-class bobsleigh, skeleton and luge facility located above Whistler Village on the side of Blackcomb Mountain. True to its mission to grow sport, the venue is not only used for training and competition by athletes from beginner to world class level, but it is also the only place in Canada where public can try bobsleigh and skeleton to slide like an Olympian with no experience required.

Shuttle Driver is responsible for the safe operation of various vehicles to transport guests, athletes and/or equipment at the Whistler Sliding Centre.  Duties includes vehicle safety inspections and safe pick-up / drop-off.  

Casual Summer role requires flexibility to work weekends and evenings.  Summer role will transition to Seasonal Full Time for the upcoming winter season.

Wage:  $25.00 to $27.50 per hour

Responsibilities

  • Safe operation of vehicles, including vans, trucks and all terrain type, for transporting athletes, guests, and/or equipment including sport/recreation sleds
  • When shuttling guests, and to provide a high level of customer service, provide a verbal informative organizational overview and in particular about the Sliding Centre (script will be provided)
  • Perform daily checks including pre-start up inspections, fueling procedures, shut down and post operational procedures including documentation regarding vehicle maintenance per established protocols
  • Assist with moving sleds and equipment
  • Support the execution of special events as required
  • Adhere to all safety, operating and maintenance procedures
  • Perform daily sweep/care and maintenance of vehicle(s)
  • Assist with snow removal to ensure safe access to all areas
  • Demonstrate ability to follow directions and work in small groups or alone when required
  • Foster a strong culture of health & safety; work with Human Resources and Safety to ensure all WorkSafeBC and Technical Safety BC requirements are met
  • Carry out Whistler Sport Legacies’ customer service philosophy AIM:  All Interactions Matter
  • Assist team with other duties as assigned or required

Position Requirements

Education/Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Valid Class 5 BC driver’s license required
  • Class 4 Unrestricted BC Driver’s License required
  • Clean Driver’s Abstract and accident history required
  • Satisfactory criminal record check is mandatory prior to commencement of employment
  • 1- 2 years commercial driving experience including extreme winter driving experience preferred
  • Knowledge of the Whistler Sliding Centre venue and sliding sports an asset

  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
  • Safety conscious to ensure care of guests, athletes and staff
  • Good public relations skills when communicating with guests, athletes, coaches and officials
  • Maintain control and composure in challenging situations
  • Experience driving on mountain roads is mandatory
  • Capacity to establish quick rapport to build relationships and network
  • Ability` to work in a dynamic environment
  • Experience performing in high pressure, multi-tasking environments independently and with little supervision
  • Takes personal accountability and responsibility for actions; takes initiative to find creative solutions to problems or issues
  • Willingness to assist other team members (perhaps outside the department) as needed and requested
  • Passion for exceptional customer service is essential

Languages

  • Fluency in English required

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to regularly lift 70lbs
